Swine Vaccine Research, Six Other Iowa State Projects, Advanced By State Fund
A grant from a state economic development fund will help Iowa State University researchers develop and evaluate a vaccine designed to protect swine from novel H1N1 and other strains of influenza. And that could help protect the health of people who work on hog farms. The State Board of Regents this week approved $679,663 in competitive grants from the state's Grow Iowa Values Fund for seven new Iowa State research projects.

Study: Furosemide Has Health Benefits For Thoroughbred Racehorses
A groundbreaking study to be published in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association (JAVMA) shows that furosemide does more than enhance performance in Thoroughbred racehorses; it also has beneficial effects on the health and welfare of those horses. Most countries ban the race-day use of furosemide because it improves performance in racehorses.
